Microphone problems
What to do when recording won't start, the microphone is blocked, or a recording stopped early.
“Microphone access is blocked”
You (or your browser) said no when NoteClearly asked to use the microphone. Allow it, then reload the page:
- Chrome and Edge: click the icon left of the address, open Site settings (or the microphone toggle) and set Microphone to Allow.
- Safari on a Mac: Safari → Settings → Websites → Microphone, and set NoteClearly to Allow.
- Firefox: click the icon left of the address and remove the Blocked microphone permission, then try again and choose Allow.
- iPhone and iPad: Settings → Apps → Safari → Microphone (or Settings → Safari → Microphone) and choose Allow or Ask.
- Android: in Chrome, tap the icon left of the address → Permissions → Microphone → Allow. Also check Settings → Apps → Chrome → Permissions → Microphone.
On a computer, also check the operating system: on a Mac, System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone must allow your browser; on Windows, Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone.
“No microphone found”
Check that a microphone is connected and switched on, and that no other app (a video call, for example) is using it. With a headset, try unplugging it and plugging it back in, then reload the page.
“Recording is not available”
The browser can’t record audio. Use an up-to-date Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. Recording also needs a secure connection - always the case on NoteClearly’s own address.
“The recording stopped early”
The microphone was taken by another app, disconnected, or switched off with the screen. Everything recorded until then has been kept and is transcribed as usual. On a phone, keep NoteClearly on screen while you record.
The transcript is empty or wrong
- Empty or “could not be read”: the microphone may have picked up silence - check the level meter moves when you speak. See When a transcription fails.
- Wrong words or wrong language: set the language you speak, and add names and terms to your glossary. See Transcription language and glossary.
