Edit a note
Change a note's title, text and tags, fix its transcript, and copy or download it.
Open a note from Notes to read and edit it.
The note’s text
The note’s text sits in one card, labelled with what it is: Transcript (as transcribed), Polished by AI, Written by you or Your note (a transcript you’ve edited). Its header has three tabs:
- Preview - the note as it reads. Tick a checkbox in a task list and it’s saved at once.
- Edit - edit it as formatted text. Type / for headings, lists, tables and more.
- Markdown - edit the Markdown source directly.
When you change the title or the text, a bar appears at the bottom: click Save changes, or press Ctrl+S (⌘+S). Discard throws the changes away. If you try to leave with unsaved changes, NoteClearly asks first.
Tags
Click Add tag under the title to add one, or type a new name to create it. Tags are saved as soon as you add or remove them - no need to save. See Tags.
The transcript
A recording keeps its transcript - what you said, as transcribed - even after you edit or polish the note. Once the note differs from it, the transcript is in a collapsed Transcript section below the note.
To fix a misheard word, expand it, turn on Edit transcript, make the change and save. This changes only the transcript - the note above stays as it is. To start the note over from the transcript, click Rebuild note from transcript (your current note is kept in the history).
When a note is locked
While a note is being transcribed, polished, or getting its title and tags, you can’t edit it - it says so at the top, and you can edit again once it’s done. Finding key points and creating outputs don’t lock the note.
Copy, download and delete
The ⋯ menu next to Share has:
- Copy text - the note’s text, to paste anywhere.
- Download .md - the note as a Markdown file. See Download and export your notes.
- History - earlier versions. See Note history and undo.
- Delete - deletes the note permanently. This can’t be undone.
