A **template** is your own recipe for what AI makes from a note: a name and instructions that describe the sections, order, length and tone you want.

## Create a template

1. Open **Templates** in the sidebar (under **Manage**).
2. Click **New template**, or start from a suggestion - **Weekly status**, **Client call notes**, **Standup** or **Idea brief** - and make it yours.
3. Give it a name and write the **Instructions**, for example:

   > Three sections: Done, Doing, Blocked. Short bullet points. End with the next deadline if one is mentioned.

4. Save it.

## Use it

- **On a note:** click **Create** on the note and choose your template. See [Create a summary, email or more from a note](https://noteclearly.com/en/help/create-from-a-note/).
- **On every new recording:** under **Apply to new recordings** on the Templates page, pick a template. Each new recording gets an output made with it once it's transcribed.

Anything the template asks for that the note doesn't say is left out or shown as a `[placeholder]` - AI only uses what the note says.

## Good to know

- Editing a template later doesn't change outputs already made with it. Deleting one keeps its outputs.
- Templates are private to you. You can have up to 50.
- Your own templates are included in the paid plans. After a downgrade you can still see and delete them, but not use them.
