Spoken thoughts are full of "uh", restarts and asides. **Polish** turns them into a clear note. The AI is told only to restructure and reword - never to add or remove information - and your original transcript is always kept.

## Polish a note

- **While recording:** tick **Polish with AI** on the Record page before you start. The small options button beside it sets the style for this recording.
- **Any note, any time:** open it and click **Polish with AI** (or **Polish again**). Pick a style and click **Polish**.
- **Every new recording:** on the **AI & automation** page, turn on **Polish new recordings automatically**. You can still switch it off for a single recording.

A polish starts from the note as it is now, your edits included. To start over from what you said instead, tick **Start over from the transcript**.

## Styles

- **Clean transcript** - keeps your own words and order. Removes filler words, fixes grammar and adds paragraphs.
- **Readable note** - rewrites what you said as a well-written note, as if you'd written it yourself, in the layout you pick:
  - **Best fit** - whatever presents it best: paragraphs, lists, tables or headings.
  - **Paragraphs** - flowing text, with lists only for to-dos and plain enumerations.
  - **Bullet points** - short points grouped by topic, with to-dos as checkboxes.

**Extra instructions** take anything else, like "Short sentences" or "British spelling". Your defaults for all of these are on the **AI & automation** page.

## Check it

AI can make mistakes. If a polish seems to have left something out - numbers that disappeared, or a note much shorter than what you said - NoteClearly warns you above the note. Compare it with the transcript, or [undo the polish](https://noteclearly.com/en/help/note-history/).

## Good to know

- The note is locked while it's being polished; it usually takes a few seconds.
- A polish costs AI credits by the note's length - see [AI credits](https://noteclearly.com/en/help/ai-credits/). Very long notes (about 8,000 words or more) are too long to polish in one go; split them into several notes.
- If a polish fails, the note is unchanged. The message says why - for example that this month's AI credits are used up.
