> Get an answer from your own notes, with the notes it comes from cited - and ask follow-ups.

Instead of searching and reading, ask: "What did we decide about the office move?", "When is Anna back from leave?", "What were my ideas for the garden?"

1. On **Notes**, type your question in the search box.
2. Click **Ask** next to it.
3. The answer appears above your notes, with numbers like [1] that point to the notes it comes from, listed under **Sources**.

To ask a follow-up, type it in the box under the answer - "And who is doing that?" works, because NoteClearly knows what "that" refers to. **Searched for:** under a follow-up shows the question it actually looked for.

## Which notes it reads

It looks for the passages in your notes closest to your question and answers only from those. If you're in a [saved view](https://noteclearly.com/en/help/saved-views/) or have tags selected, it asks only those notes - a handy way to narrow it down.

## When it says "Your notes don't answer that"

Nothing in the notes it looked at says so. Try asking in other words, or more specifically. It never answers from general knowledge - only from your notes.

## Good to know

- AI can make mistakes, so check the sources for anything important. An answer that cites none is marked as such.
- The conversation is kept only on the page; it's gone when you close it.
- An answered question costs AI credits by the size of the question and the passages read - nothing when nothing was found. See [AI credits](https://noteclearly.com/en/help/ai-credits/).
- Only your own notes are searched. Colleagues' notes are private to them.
